This project was used in my high school Geometry class after direct instruction of transversals, parallel lines, corresponding angles, etc. This was used as an assessment and student were encouraged to use their notes. Student work was displayed around the classroom until the end of the unit. The sticker file I have included can be printed on sticker sheets or on plain paper and then glued to their project sheets. If you do not use sticker paper then edit the instruction accordingly.

I used this activity for my high school geometry students as the final project for the unit on parallel lines cut by a transversal. It also uses the different angle relationships that are formed when lines are cut by a transversal.

Parallel Lines and Transversals Investigation

This investigation provides a common example of parallel lines and transversals by showing a map of city streets. Students can then use protractors to measure pairs of special angles such as corresponding, alternate interior, alternate exterior, and same-side interior angles. They will then make conjectures about the mathematical relationships among the pairs of angels (i.e. congruent or supplementary).

This project can be scaled up or down to take 2-4 days (1 hour class). Students will demonstrate their knowledge of parallel lines and transversals by: Researching real cities to explore the geometry by urban planningcreate their own city mappresenting their "real city" and its historical urban developmentexploring market research for store locationsThis is best used after students have learned vocabulary words and angle relationships with parallel lines and transversals. Students see the rele
