This is one of my favorite activities to get students to find patterns between the graphs of the first and second derivative in relation to the original function. It asked students to sketch them based on the given curve, then find intervals of increasing/decreasing, concavity, etc. It then asks them to constantly look at connections between the graphs.
This activity consistently generates high quality discussions during and after.
Increasing & Decreasing vs. Positive + Negative Roller Coaster Google Slides Activity Students will identify the intervals of increasinganddecreasing on a variety of polynomials that have been adapted to look like roller coasters.
