Statistical Inquiry Project (introductory slides & rubric)

This project walks students through the entire process of doing their own statistical investigation during a 6th-grade statistics unit. Each student creates a question, gathers data, analyzes what they find, and explains their conclusions. As they learn new ideas in class, they put them to use right away in their own project. I created this as a way for students to practice the topics they were learning, while also giving them a chance to explore something that genuinely interests them.

Using meaningful data can be difficult sometimes in the High School classroom. Sourcing realistic data from sport can be a huge motivator for students. Data sets like these are often used by sport enthusiasts that may be looking at playing online fantasy sports. Using AFL (Australian Football) and EPL (English Premier League) data we can determine if there is a correlation between data sets. Some examples of data (sourced from online research and data collecting from the 2024-25 seasons in both

STEM Traffic Simulation: Can AI Beat Human Thinking? Can your students outsmart artificial intelligence? In this hands-on STEM challenge, teams build a real traffic intersection using toy cars, measure how long it takes 10 cars to get through, then race to improve it — one group using AI research, the other using pure observation and logic. It's competitive, engaging, and surprisingly deep. Students collect real data, calculate percentage improvement, and discover that fixing one problem often cr
