Symmetry Lesson Plan

This lesson teaches students to recognize symmetry in shapes and letters. Students analyze die-cut letters of the alphabet to determine if they are symmetrical. This lesson involves whole group work, and cooperative pairs. Students loved this lesson. They learned a lot about symmetry, and loved seeing their posters hung on the wall.

Geometry Quilt

This is a great project idea to end a geometry unit. There are two parts that can easily be adapted for different grade levels. In the first part, students choose a shape, label it, and find the area and perimeter. For the second part, students use tangram pieces to create their own sculpture and mathematically describe it. Once all the elements are completed by all students, the pieces can be arranged into a quilt for display in the hallway! (rubric included)
