Special needs student led business.

12 years ago I created the Special Blend Coffee Shop. Special Blend is a student led business that services students with special needs. The program is an established as a student club on a high school campus with a student activities account in the school’s bookstore. I have used this business with students with severe multiple disabilities to moderate to mild disabilities. It is adaptable to every level of student in your class. This is an excellent way to raise funds for your classroom.

Summary: There is evidence that people agree that we need to live more sustainably but don’t always act in a way that leads to sustainability of the earth’s natural and human systems. This project is an opportunity for us to learn about the importance of sustainability and to act as agents of change. We need you to creat

Service Learning Project - Research and Planning Organizers

"Be the change you want to see in the world" - Ghandi This is a powerful quote. Inspiring someone to not just sit and dream, but to take action. However, for many people (adults and students alike) it is not that simple. While the dream may be there, the plan is difficult to organize. I began doing one service learning project a year because my students were so dedicated to their passions. From animals to women's safety to literacy, each student was able to focus on something that was import

The project draws inspiration from Fred Hampton and the way he viewed education as a pathway to community empowerment. Hampton believed that meaningful change begins when individuals pursue knowledge, understand the systems affecting their communities, and work together to transform that understanding into organized action. During his short but influential life, he demonstrated how learning, teaching others, and collective organization could help communities better understand their rights and ad

100 Acts of Kindness - Editable

It's that time of year again! Time for the 100th Day of School and Valentine's Day! One of the things that confounded me for a few years was how to acknowledge and celebrate the 100th Day of School and Valentine’s Day when they so often occur close to one another (if not on the same day! My desire to find a way to combine these two special days resulted one year in 100 Acts of Kindness. It keeps us thinking about 100, but it also encourages thoughtful actions in service to others. Valentine car

Full Workflow Tool + Handout + Teacher Guide | Grades 9–12 | Local History SeriesEvery community has people who remember things no document recorded. This unit teaches students to find those people, interview them rigorously, and analyze what they say as a primary source — not just a story. The result is a form of historical evidence students created themselves, and a set of critical thinking skills they'll use on every source they encounter afterward. The centerpiece is The Field Recorder, a fo

Leadership Poster Project for National Honor Society

This is a project that any group interested in leadership can complete. I currently use it for National Junior Honor Society, but it can be used in National Honor Society as well. Students will interview a community leader, and will create a poster reflecting the interview. The interview is guided by the questions on the document. Students can present the final product, or it can be displayed during the months of January and February when schools celebrate American leaders.
