These plays allow children to access Māori myths and legends through the medium of drama. Close-reading, intonation, fluency and prosody are all involved. They also provide an opportunity for prop making! I have written three plays for my own classes to act out (all based on multiple online examples of each tale). "The Emperor's New Clothes" is a Play Script for young actors. It is written as "The Queen's New Clothes" in a quirky adaptation of the classic tale. This light-hearted play has a cast of between 10 and 25 actors, depending on the needs of the Director. For example, there can be more than one Royal Clothier, Hairdresser, Chef, etc. Townspeople and additional servants can also be added if necessary.
