Word Problems and Writing Project Based Learning
This project based learning activity asks students to create a word problem (anything from addition to division, depending on current instruction) and then write a script to show how the student would teach this to a parent or classmate. Teachers have the option to incorporate technology using the "Show Me" app on the iPad. Students can actually record their "lesson" on the live whiteboard using the app. Videos can be posted to classroom websites to share with parents.

100 Days of School Play- "100 Years Ago"
This original short play can involve from 3 to 16 readers and is perfect for celebrating the 100th Day of School, learning about hundreds, history class, or as a readers' theater activity. The lines are short and easy for memorization. The play uses humor and historical facts to discuss the differences in today's culture versus one hundred years ago. With references to Woodrow Wilson and Babe Ruth, this play is perfect for beginning discussions of many different topics.

This small group reader's theater is for four students. The key concept, besides reading fluently, is the 4 Properties of Multiplication and the Math Vocabulary that goes along with it. The Fraction Freaks Help with Improper Fractions & Mixed Numbers - S.G.R.T.
This is a reader's theater for 4 students. It is not a normal reader's theater. This one is designed to use as an intervention tool for students who are struggling with improper fractions and mixed numbers. It is one way I can mix language arts with math. Students are still working on fluency but they are practicing math vocabulary as well as talking their way through the process of making a mixed number an improper fraction and vice versa. Pigs Will Be Pigs For Sure! A play about pigs and money
This is a play written for primary grades and was developed using the book Pigs Will Be Pigs: Fun with Math and Money by Amy Axelrod as a model. Not only is math and literature a part of this play history is too. Each coin is described with its value, president or famous person in history represented on the face, and the American symbols on the tail of the coin or bill. The students enjoy getting into the characters and acting them out!
