Musical Math - Reflections, Rotations, and Translations
Common Core math standards include identifying and creating reflections, rotations, and translations. This song, to the tune of "The Mexican Hat Dance," has been successfully used in grades 3 and 4 in both math class and the music class. This song helps students set up proportions to determine if two figures are similar. IT reviews that similar figures do not have to be the same size, but they have proportional sides and equal angles. It talks about matching sides (corresponding sides) and seeing if the proportions are equal.
