In my life skills classroom, we would go grocery shopping 2 times a month. Before we would go the students would have to go to the website of the store we were going to go to, search for the ingredients we would need and write down the prices. We would always plan to bring a little extra money with us "just in case." You can feel free to add the website for your local grocery store and change the ingredients you need for your cooking activity.

In this activity, students look up different items from different department stores, then calculate what the final price of the item would be with the sales tax from 4 different locations.   You can use computers, chromebooks or phones to find this information. You can also predetermine items and give students that information if you do not want to use tech for this activity.  I have included a table with blank city spots, if you want to choose different cities that what I used in my classroom.
