Students often find it challenging ot visualize volumes in calculus classes. This is a file to 3D print a model of a volume whose cross sections are rectangles perpendicular to the x-axis, whose base is defined by the distance between the curves y=x^2 and y=sqrt(x), and have a height twice the base. The download is for an .stl file, which should be printed at very fine resolution. The printed model is 10x10 cm (approximately 4x4 inches).

CAN YOUR STUDENT INTERPRET a Bar Graph? Everyday we may see numbers through pictures known as “graphs”. The ability to read these pictures and understand them is a basic skill that our students need to master. Students need to learn how to interpret various types of graphs such as bar graphs, line graphs, and pie charts. In this set of activities, the student will be asked to complete a table related to the bar graphs presented. This activity may be used as a starter as students enter the c

Natural Selection - A simple Data Gathering Model Low Prep NGSS Aligned

Speciation by natural selection can be fairly fast, but it happens to populations, not individuals. To study predation as one cause of natural selection, we can use a model with beans as prey and cloth squares as habitat to collect data quickly and easily. The materials are readily available, and the outcomes lead to in-depth discussion and a greater understanding of evolution. Small groups of students receive a bag of "prey" (beans of different colors in set amounts). Students go to a habita
