Surface Area

This activity guides the learner in finding the surface area of a 3-D object (cube). TLW classifies the 3-D object by labeling its edges, faces, and vertices. Then, given dimensions and a visual representation of the net of a cube, TLW calculate the area of each face and sum the total for the cube's surface area. I use this resource as an interactive math journal activity for my alternate middle school math class, but it can be used as differentiated notes, quiz, or for reinforcement or review.

5.OA.1 and 5.OA.2_Orders of Operations Foldable plusTask Cards

Using math journals? Here is a great fifth grade resource...a foldable for the orders of operations (parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, subtraction, and additions)! Included with the foldable are some task cards that students can paste in their math journals and complete as additional practice and/or as formative assessment for the teacher.
