This goes along with the root beer reading activity but this deals with multiplication word problems. I've seen struggles with interpreting word problems. I also left some practice problems dealing with finding the missing numbers and multiplications of threes. Let me know if you have trouble with the downloading and the formatting. From my end it looks fine once downloaded. I'll make a answer later on and re-upload.

Penny Boat Lab: Density, Buoyancy and Archimedes

This is a one period activity/lab to teach students about the concept of density and Archimedes Principle, why things float. Students each get a piece of aluminum foil and design and make a boat. They then must calculate how many pennies it will carry before sinking, and then test it. This is an excellent one day STEM project that combines science, math, design and construction. Students will use the formula Density=Mass divided by Volume.

A multi part assignment where students will draw out of a hat circumstances such as their occupation & monthly wage and lifestyle factors (married, kids, divorced, single, etc). Based on those circumstances and income they must make a monthly budget for both fixed and flexible expenses, based on a set of choices for housing, transportation, groceries, insurance, etc. There is also a good luck/bad luck draw that will either add to their financials or take away from them (ie: you car gets a flat
