This is a tree map where students cut, sort, and paste the words or phrases onto the map into the different levels of government: local, state, and federal.
I have put my city and my state words/phrases. It's in a word document, so these names can be changed to be where ever you are teaching.
This is a good formative assessment after a lesson on the levels of government.

This activity guides the learner in finding the surface area of a 3-D object (cube). TLW classifies the 3-D object by labeling its edges, faces, and vertices. Then, given dimensions and a visual representation of the net of a cube, TLW calculate the area of each face and sum the total for the cube's surface area.
I use this resource as an interactive math journal activity for my alternate middle school math class, but it can be used as differentiated notes, quiz, or for reinforcement or review.
Using math journals? Here is a great fifth grade resource...a foldable for the orders of operations (parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, subtraction, and additions)! Included with the foldable are some task cards that students can paste in their math journals and complete as additional practice and/or as formative assessment for the teacher.

A key part of learning is allowing students time to summarize and reflect on information they learn. There are many techniques and resources to help students learn to summarize, but not as many for reflections. Here are 8 reflection sentence stems to help students get started with their reflections. They can be added onto a summary to create an AVID-style Focused Notes "summary-reflection", or can stand alone when students just need to explain why info is important or interesting to them. Gi
