Adding Integers Rules: Foldables and Discovery Activity
It's always hard to transition students from using red/yellow chips or number lines to using addition rules for integers. This activity solves that problem. Students solve equations using manipulatives and sort them into 2 groups (same signs, different signs). Then students match the rule that describes the equations in both groups.
