Algae Population Lab
There is joy in this lab and I start the year off doing this experiment. Students love counting algae (the floating "green hot dogs" under the microscope). Students have measured great data from this experiment seeing a difference between their control and variable populations. They make many mistakes and we have great conversations about measurement, experimental vocabulary, and why you should write your procedure as you set up the experiment (and not weeks later). This lab can be completed in
