Desmos Drawings Functions Project | Algebra 1 and 8th Grade Math | End of Year!

This is a wonderful multi-day project I have used for the past two years with my 8th grade math and honors Algebra 1 students! It is low-prep, takes around four 60-minute class periods, and is perfect for the end of the year after testing. Students select an image to trace in the free, online Desmos graphing calculator. They trace their image by creating functions and limiting the domain and range. 8th grade math students stick to basic images and linear functions, while Algebra 1 students can

A fun way to practice graphing polar functions that will also give you something pretty to decorate your classroom with! This is also designed to get students reasoning and explaining mathematically. In order to complete it, they need to explain why it is impossible to create a 6-petaled rose using the standard formulas (or come up with their own out-of-the-box formula!) If you're teaching AP Precalculus, this goes with lesson 3.14: Polar Function Graphs. I used this immediately after going thro

Zach's Eraser: Linear Functions and Line of Fit

This is an effective and thought-provoking way to helps students apply functions to real situations. The resulting function shows a negative slope. Though it is a simple linear function, the data is not perfect, so a line of fit must be employed. Because it is based on real data, even students who have only a beginning experience with functions can understand the concepts and mathematics. The lesson can incorporate slope-intercept and point-slope forms as well as independent and dependent variab

Graph Swap

Use: This activity can be used with a full class, as a center or as an individual activity. Students practice reading and transferring graph data. This allows students to gain more of an understanding about how graphing works and become more comfortable will different graph types. This document includes Pictographs, Bar graphs, Picture graphs and Tally graphs. Directions: Students are presented with the original data graph (I laminated mine) and the corresponding empty graphs. Students they use

Stock Market Graphs

Students use their skills to track and interpret trends with at least 3 current companies. They collect data on stock price for two weeks, graph the information, then make predictions about what they think will happen based on the trends. Great for use in finance and investment classes, math, or science to collect and analyze data. I used this in my middle school RTI classes for project-based learning. Let me know what you think or how I might make it better. Thank you!

Data and Graphing Enrichment Project - Tallest Buildings

This product is a great project to enhance your students' understanding of the Data and Graphing standards for grade 3. This project is wonderful for your gifted students who have already showed mastery of CCSS MD.B3 and need something to take their learning to the next level. This multi-faceted project includes research, data analysis, note-taking, bar graph creation, speaking skills (I have students present their buildings to the class), surveys and plotting survey results. I also have an o

Shape Sort

Shape Sort Directions: Students use the sorting mat to sort shapes. 1. Use this as an assessment. Have students glue the shapes on the mat, or take a picture of this completed activity and put in their portfolio. 2. Laminate this and use this as a center activity. 3. Have students practice cutting and pasting skills by having them cut, sort and glue onto the mat. 4. Hide the shapes in a sensory bin and have students find them and place them on the sorting mat. 5. Put this activity on a Sma
