Decoding Strategies: Flip the Sound
As students learn that some letter represent multiple sounds, decoding weaknesses are often uncovered by the teacher. This is particularly troublesome with the vowels. Poor readers will read words with the one sound they remember and not adjust or clarify the word so it makes sense in the sentence.
