Amplify Visual Anchor Adding and Subtracting Integers
This resource supports the Desmos 7th grade lessons on positive and negative numbers. The strategy pushes students to see adding and subtracting as a starting point with a change (adding and removing items), and the value of the items as positive or negative, floats or anchors. I printed this as a visual anchor and included it as a reference in my student handout.

Number lines begin at whole numbers - not zero. Hence, the student can find improper fractions at any point by using a whole number location on the number line - and the student is off to the races.
If students are only given discrete mixed numbers, proper fractions, improper fractions and decimals, then they 'float' in isolation. These number lines connect the elements in an application setting.
