This is the best Genetic Code chart ever! For novices, that is. Those 20 proteinogenic amino acids are real characters! Each has its own charming personality. They do fall into four nice categories of side-chain chemical quality, indicated by colored backgrounds. The idea for drawing side-chain atoms as kissing circles, and the representation of the invariant amino acid backbone as a simple chain-link, came from Mahlon Hoagland and/or Bert Dodson. For the most durability, print on cardstock and laminate.
Nomenclature: Prepare one set and use as flash cards to build vocabulary.
Traditional 3-Part Cards: Prepare two sets of cards. Cut along the gray lines of one set,detaching the name. Challenge the student to match the name to the picture. Use the uncut set as a control. Alternately, you can color code the backs so the student can self-check.
