3rd Grade Envision Math Topic 1 Vocabulary Supplemental

Use these no-frills cards to have students cut and match vocabulary words to their definitions. Then have them paste them to 3X5 index cards and draw an example of the word. I punch holes in the cards prior to class and give students a binder ring to put them on so we can add to and review all year. I also give periodic vocabulary quizzes which I will list later. You could also use these as an interactive bulletin board or center.

SHARK! Rounding to Nearest 10 Activity (Meets Learning Style Needs)

I have created a fun activity to introduce rounding to the nearest 10 (which is also the basis for rounding in general). Some students hold "Island Cards" (numbered in 10's from 0 - 100) while others are given numbers anywhere between 1 and 99. (These students are "swimmers"). When the teacher yells "Shark", the students must "swim" to the nearest island to escape being attacked by the shark. This activity meets the learning-style needs of visual, auditory, and tactile-kinesthetic learners.

This nice template allows students to properly place the digits in the correct place value in order to add correctly. The Hundred, ten, and one block pictures also help children get accustomed to proper place value.Just print, cut, and laminate for use with dry erase markers. This can also be used like flash cards.
