Statistics - Binomial, Geometric, and Normal Probability Distributions

(resource updated 3/6/24) Are your students like mine? By the time you have taught both discrete probability distributions (binomial and geometric) and normal distributions, their brains are jumbled and they need to separate what to use in which situation. So I created this activity! First, in class, we discuss when to use which situation (binomial, geometric, or normal probability distributions). Then students work on a two truths and one lie activity that mixed all of the different situation

Spring Conditional Probability Coloring Activity: Two-Way Tables & Venn Diagrams

Spring Conditional Probability Coloring Activity: Two-Way Tables and Venn Diagrams (Common Core): Yay, spring! Students practice computing conditional probabilities in this self-checking spring-themed coloring activity. Students use contextual interpretation and probability notation to solve problems on conditional probability using data presented in two-way tables and Venn diagrams. Students are given an answer bank and can self-check their work if their answer is not in the bank. This fun tw

Circuit Training -- Probability Distributions and Random Variables

I wrote this set of 20 exercises to give my students more practice with the "bridge unit" (probability) between the basics of statistics and inference. A calculator is deifnitely required. Students begin in cell #1, work the problem, search for that answer and continue in this manner until the complete the circuit (get back to the beginning). This circuit is challenging! Let me know what you think! virge@virgecornelius.com

Some of the questions are level 1 and 2 blooms (remembering and understanding) in order to collect data on the subskills of the standard. I structured the assessment in Stanford-notes style double column for students to express their thinking/show their work and I always attach a grade according to how visible they made their thinking. This 1) tends to reduce academic dishonesty 2) s
