Students have to solve various problems using ratios, proportions, and percents to figure out who stole Mrs. Evans' white board markers! The questions range from pretty basic to much more complex. For example, rather than having students simply find a missing side in two similar figures, they must find two missing sides and then the perimeter of the larger figure before they can learn a clue about who stole the markers, where the markers are stashed, and what the motive was. For this activity students are given a data set (Grady's quiz grades) and then are given a set of guidelines for how those grades will be calculated by his teacher Ms. Stickler. These guidelines may or may not change Grady's average. Students' goal is to determine if he should retake a quiz in order to raise his average above a certain amount. This was done as a problem of the week. Students work in groups and share their solutions.
