Cellular Respiration Equation Assessment

This formative assessment ensures students are working towards NGSS HSLS1-7 by memorizing the equation for cellular respiration. Students must write the equation as described in words and the chemical formulas. In addition to learning the reactants and products for cellular respiration students must also use symbols correctly and balance the equation. This rubric also helps teachers differentiate future instruction for those students ready to move ahead from those that need more practice.

Conductivity Lab, Conductors, Insulators, Resistors, Circuits (Word and PDF )

At the beginning of every unit on electricity, it helps to discuss conductivity. This is a great lab for letting students investigate the differences between conductors and insulators. If you are able to extract a thick pencil lead, students can even observe a resistor (the graphite of the lead conducts electricity, with increasing resistance as the distance between the test leads increases). I have included both PDF and Word files. I have made a suggested list of items to try, but you may modi

Cell Organelle Mutation Project | Hero or Hazard Biology Activity

Created by
JJZ Biology
This takes a fun cell organelle project idea and turns it into a complete, PRINT-AND-GO biology activity. In this cell organelle mutation activity, students design a biologically plausible mutation to one organelle, predict how that mutation affects the cell and the whole organism, and decide whether the result becomes a superpower, a hazard, or both.Instead of simply matching organelles to functions or labeling another cell diagram, students use what they know about cell organelle structure and

5th 6th Grade 4 Scientific Method Steps Rubric Activity Experiment Lab Test

You will download two scientific method rubric assessments (teacher and student self assessment) to use with your 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. It works well to test and review the steps during a lab or experiment activity. The first one may be used by the teacher to assess the students' skills in identifying concepts, such as, the hypothesis, following the procedures, collecting data, using materials, and accuracy of results. The assessment is on a four point scale. The second assessment

Genetics Project with Rubric: Make an Organism

Created by
Elly Thorsen
This middle school genetics project is a flexible, creative, and fun way to practice important genetics topics like Punnett squares, dominant, recessive, homozygous, heterozygous, purebred, genotype, and phenotype. Project Overview: Students will select an organism, choose multiple dominant and recessive traits, determine the parents’ genotypes and phenotypes, and create models of their offspring. The organisms can be a real-life living thing, a mythical creature, or a living thing entirely fro

Scientific classification of Living Things Project 6 Kingdoms of Life Poster

“Six Kingdoms of Life Poster Project” is a guideline for designing a poster displaying the scientific classification of life - six kingdoms of living things: animals, plants, fungi, protists, eubacteria, and archaebacteria. It is a cross-curricular activity to engage in project-based learning when building a strong foundation for the concept of classifying live organisms. Provide your students an opportunity to convey researched information in a creative yet accessible and understandable way.
