I recommend laminating the sheet and using a vis-a-vis marker on it. The students is told or chooses a spelling word. On the first step (box at the top) they write the first letter of their spelling word. On the second step (two boxes) they write the first and second letter of their word. The third step they write the first three letters, and so on. They are building their spelling word with each step. Once they finish one word, they wipe off their sheet and go onto their next word. I hope this explains it. Let me know if you are still unclear and I will try to help you out.

I actually have 32 sets of lists which each contain anywhere from 1 to 3 different word families/spelling patterns. It would probably be easier to know what specific word families/spelling patterns you are looking for. I have most of the common word families. I also have digraphs, color words, number words, silent -e words, long vowel sound words, words with -oo, words with -ing, words with silent letters, words not spelled the way they sound, st- blends, and words with -ss.

Yes! They are pretty sturdy. I have never had any of them rip when printed on card stock (knock on wood). I usually print it on colored card stock to make it a little more festive.

The words are not on the ice cream scoops themselves. If you have your own list you use, you could just choose which ice cream item they would get for every 10 words. I believe in the packet, there are pictures of my student's ice cream cones. I hope this answers your question. If not, please let me know.

I just purchased your Animal Comprehension Strategies Flip Book. Overall, I am pleased with your product. I like the probing questions and the colorful illustrations will be a hit with students. There seems to be a format problem with the animal page for Monitor and Fix Up! Also, in Word your 'racoon' is changed to raccoon. Would you consider making this spelling change? TEACHING EXPERIENCE
This is my 8th year of teaching first grade. In that time, I have worked with 90% ESL students. I have worked five years on a District Curriculum Mapping team. On this team I build the science, math, and ELA curriculum for grades K-5. I developed learning activities, assessments, and found resources for teachers to use in their instruction. I have been trained in SIOP method of instruction and RTI. This past year I served on our district ELA curriculum task force. On this team we discussed how we can close the gaps in our ELA program. I completed my Reading and Literacy master's degree at Marygrove University in August of 2012.
MY TEACHING STYLE
I believe in reaching all learners. When doing a lesson I try to reach each learning style. With my ESL students it is highly important to have visual and hands-on experiences. I really believe in choice theory. I work hard on talking all my students through their good and bad choices. I feel that it is important to instill responsibility at an early age in order to make the students better citizens in the future.
HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT
I had the honor of presenting at the Michigan School Improvement Conference in 2012. I presented with some of my other colleagues on how our school closed the gap from 26% to 72% top to bottom.
