This lesson plan is designed to be the introduction of the American Symbols Unit. The purpose of this lesson is to answer the question what are symbols? At the end of this lesson, the students should be able to identify symbols/logos that they see daily and understand what they represent, find symbols in the classroom, and define what a symbol is by recognizing that symbols are pictures/illustrations that we can see (concrete) that stand for or represent something that we cannot see (abstract idea). This bundle includes the detailed lesson plan, a power point used to lead a discussion of symbols that they see every day, and the Symbols Classroom Scavenger Hunt.
