Description

Help your students compare 2 digit numbers with these UNIQUE and ENGAGING math task cards that develop number sense, deductive reasoning and make kids think!

Which number doesn’t belong? That’s the framework for these Knock Out Math Task Cards. This critical-thinking activity provides good practice in understanding the use of the greater than and less than signs. Your students will figure out which number(s) they can insert to make the number comparisons true and which number to "knock out" (X Out). They have to think about this!

I've included 2 levels for differentiation:

Level 1 – One number comparison - 12 cards

Level 2 – Two number comparisons - 12 cards

Early in the year, students may benefit from using number lines or 120 charts to help them with the value of each number.

Knock Out Task Cards:

• require lots of critical thinking and deductive reasoning

• build number sense

• build fluency with numbers

• make kids think!

I use these cards in various ways, and I like to listen to the rich math discussions between students as they try out different strategies and solutions. My Knock Out Task Cards are very versatile. Here are a few suggestions for how to use these cards:

✓ math center rotation

✓ SCOOT game

✓ early-finisher activity

✓ walk-the-room activity

✓ assessment (1.NBT.3) (use a subset of cards)

✓ independent seat work (organize in a pocket folder)

✓ in a sub tub

✓ end-of-year review

I was really excited about this product, however, upon further review, out of the 16 pages, there are only 4 pages of cards. The other 12 pages are either instructions, recording sheets, cover pages, answer keys, teacher notes (3 pages of these), etc. I was a little disappointed to say the least that there wasn't something of more substance with this--great idea, but not enough cards for my kids to get the practice they need. My enrichment kids would fly through this in no time and not enough practice for low kiddos.
