Teaching 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication can be difficult for children. Using this color-coded resource can help. Not only does this include the different colored boxes, but it also uses the Many Zoos Many Animals pneumonic device for teaching the process. Many= Multiply, Zoos, Add the Zero as a placeholder, Many-Multiply, Animals-Add. I have used both of these combined to support my students in learning the steps in a way they can remember. Use it as a printout for practice, or you could put it in a dry erase sleeve to be used in a center or small group. This is the method I prefer as we can practice multiple problems a day.
