This is a way for students to analyze the Presidential election mathematically. Students will look at the number of electoral votes for each state and find mean, median, mode and create a stem-and-leaf plot. After the election they will look at the percentage of votes earned by each candidate and create bar and pie charts of the results. I did this lesson 4 years ago and it was a big hit. I teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade math and the lower school teacher (4th and 5th) will be using parts of this in her class. My students are a professional touring choir who will be on the road the two weeks before the election. I will be starting this project then and ask them to speak with people they meet on tour and to take note of lawn signs and ads they see in the states they travel through.
