Description

Love is one of those topics that works any time of year. Maybe it's spring and your students are distracted anyway. Maybe your textbook has a unit on relationships or marriage. Maybe you just want something warm and positive to counter the usual news cycle. Whatever brought you here, these 76 love-themed conversation cards are ready to go.

When your adult ESL students have a question in hand, the conversation keeps moving. No awkward silences, no scrambling for a follow-up. These cards do the heavy work so you can focus on facilitating.

WHAT'S INSIDE:

✅ 76 love-themed conversation starter cards, each printed one per card and ready to cut

✅ A range of prompts from accessible warm-up questions to meatier topics that push intermediate and advanced students to think and respond in depth

✅ A teacher suggestion page with tips on how to use the cards

✅ Easel version with one discussion prompt per slide for whole-class use

HOW TO USE THESE CARDS

Before class, flip through the cards and pull the ones that feel right for your group. During class, divide students into pairs or small groups and give each group a card or two. Encourage them to respond, ask each other follow-up questions, and keep the conversation going in English. When time is up, have groups share the most interesting thing that came up in their discussion.

Want a low-prep writing day? These cards work just as well as writing prompts. Many of them also make great impromptu speaking topics if you do presentations.

THIS WAS CREATED FOR YOUR ADULT ESL STUDENTS

Your intermediate to advanced adult ESL students have plenty to say about love, relationships, and what they mean across cultures. They just need a prompt to get started. These cards give them a jumping-off point without putting you in the position of coming up with a new question every two minutes. They also work well for older teen students who are ready for more nuanced conversation topics.

GRAB IT AND GO

Download, print, cut, and you're set. Laminate if you want them to last. Or skip the printing entirely and run the Easel version. Either way, you've got 76 conversation starters on love ready before your next class.
