Description

RDW math worksheets help students pay attention to the context of word problems using a three-step problem-solving approach. First, students read the problem to visualize what is being described. Second, students draw a model that represents the situation. Third, students write an equation and solve the problem. These word problems are a mix of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. They would be great for 2nd-3rd for use in RTI, in a math station, or for projecting one at a time for morning work or math journaling. A poster is also included.

All of the pages can be seen in the preview. The problems are basic operations and include some estimation and multi-step. The largest answer is 700. These worksheets are a low-key way to introduce multiplication and division problems without using those terms. Students generally find the problems easy to solve with a drawing, which makes multiplying and dividing less intimidating.

The following items are included:

• RDW word problems, 100 in all, 2 per page (50 pages)

• Answer key (1 page)

• When In Doubt Sketch It Out Poster (1 page)

• TOU & Credits (1 page)

• Easel Activities versions

I’d appreciate your purchase, your rating, and your feedback.

I was so impressed at the variety of word problem types! It gave my 2nd grade intervention group a ton of practice with different ways of showing a word problem.

This was a great way to help students visualize word problems. I did feel like because they were so big and my students completed them fairly fast it would be a waste of paper to print out a packet of them for each student or even groups. I wish there was a virtual way students could do this.

Abigail, one suggestion I have is to print copies, cut them apart, then laminate them. Have students draw using non-permanent markers, erase the sketches, and reuse as needed. A virtual solution is included along with the PDFs you purchased. The pages can be opened in Easel. Students are assigned their own copies and can draw using the pen tool. I hope this helps!

This was a great way of engaging my summer school students who have trouble visualizing word problems. We used a colored pencil to identify the important information in the problem, drew the picture together, then discussed the operation to be used. They solved independently. Great resource!
