Description
Are you looking for engaging resources to conquer math word problems using the 3 Reads Protocol? This Easter theme activity includes math word problems for addition and subtraction within 10, 20, and 30. This is the ultimate resource designed exclusively for elementary math teachers who aim to cultivate exceptional problem-solving skills in their students.
Resources Included:
- 1 Real World Scenario to use with the 3 Reads Protocol at 3 Differentiated Levels
- Level One is mostly adding and subtracting within 10.
- Level Two is mostly adding and subtracting within 20.
- Level Three is mostly adding and subtracting within 30.
- Optional challenge and extension questions are not always within the range for each level.
- Problems are presented in task card (4 cards to a page) and powerpoint presentation (13.33 in x 7.5 in).
- A variety of problem types which may include any of the problem types. There are more compare difference unknown and part part whole problem types represented because the scenarios are designed to have multiple possible questions for each scenario.
- Graphics are included for each step of the 3 Reads Process.
- Graphic organizers for the 3 Reads Protocol can be found here (including an option with matching graphics for each step):
- More word problems similar to these can be found here:
3 Reads Protocol
- 1st Read (Represented by a storybook graphic): Read the story without specific numbers to focus on the details of the story and to answer the question: What is the story about?

- 3rd Read (Represented by a question marks graphic): Read the story a third time and focus on answering the question: What mathematical questions can we ask about the story?
- After going through all the steps of the 3 Read Protocol, you can determine if you would like to answer the questions your class or group came up with or if you would like to use the questions provided.
