Description
TOP SELLER! 7 Lesson Plans with Geometry Review and Assessment are all directly aligned to Common Core Standards for 3rd Grade Geometry.
Content includes:
-identifying attributes of 2D shapes
-categorizing shapes based on attributes
-identifying and drawing quadrilaterals
-equal shares
-partitioning shapes
-identifying parts of a whole
Students will explore the concepts through the following:
Lessons 1-3
-using 2D shapes/pattern blocks
-playing "I Spy" shape game using the Shape Attribute List
-playing "What Shape Am I?" game
-completing a Shape Categories worksheet (key included)
-listening to a picture book about quadrilaterals
-drawing examples of shapes based on attributes in shaving cream
-creating Quadrilateral Art
-making a Polygon Mobile
-going on a Shape Category Hunt
Lessons 4-6
-picture books with corresponding activities
-using food, 2D shapes/pattern blocks to find equal shares
-creating a page for a classroom book
-completing the Partitioning Shape Worksheet to create a display
-creating a Fraction Quilt Square to make a classroom quilt
-making equal share pizzas
-going on an Equal Shares Hunt
Lesson 7 includes the review and assessment. Students will review the content by using 2D shapes/pattern blocks in a sorting activity and by finding parts of whole with the shapes. They will use dry erase boards to draw specific shapes given attributes read from the Shape Attribute List. They will also draw shapes, partition into equal shares, and shade parts of the whole.
The assessment is broken down into three sections: Shape Attributes and Categories, Equal Shares, and Partitioning Shapes. Students will circle shapes that have specific attributes or fall under a specific category. They will identify shapes with equal shares correctly divided. Then, they will partition shapes by drawing lines and shading to identify parts of the whole.
Also available is the Area and Perimeter Unit that would be taught after the Geometry Unit.

Standards

CCSS3.G.A.1
Understand that shapes in different categories (e.g., rhombuses, rectangles, and others) may share attributes (e.g., having four sides), and that the shared attributes can define a larger category (e.g., quadrilaterals). Recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals, and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories.
CCSS3.G.A.2
Partition shapes into parts with equal areas. Express the area of each part as a unit fraction of the whole. For example, partition a shape into 4 parts with equal area, and describe the area of each part as 1/4 of the area of the shape.
