Description
Daily Dolphin Drills are designed to be used as a cyclical review, mini-lessons or as part of a Response to Intervention (RTI) plan within a classroom based on the common core standards for mathematics. The use of Dolphin Drills complements the educational continuous improvement model in which data analysis determines classroom instruction.
There are 24 small problem cards and 24 large problems cards for each drill. The small cards are designed to be displayed using a document camera and LCD projector, while the large cards are designed for use on Daily Dolphin Drill problem wall.
Although the Daily Dolphin Drills were designed as a cyclical review, there are many different ways these cards can be used in the classroom. Typically students complete 3-5 problems each day with each problem reviewing a different concept. The concepts being covered rotate as well. Utilizing this method allows students to continually review learned math concepts throughout the year, yielding better retention.
The Dolphin Drills can also be used as mini-lessons to cover pre-requisite skills that the students may not have yet mastered. The concept can be taught on day 1 by modeling several problems. The following days, students can complete 3-5 Dolphin Drill problem cards related to the concept until they have mastered it.
Additionally, these cards can be utilized as part of an RTI plan for struggling students. The Dolphin Drill problem cards can be used with students to practice the skills and concepts they are having difficulty with.
Below is a list of the 4th Grade concepts covered with this set of Dolphin Drill problem cards:
