These reviews follow Florida 4th grade B.E.S.T. math standards and specs. Prior to the 2023 school year, I used similar reviews to expose students to multistep word problems, open-ended, multi-select and multiple choice questioning they will see on Florida’s F.A.S.T.

To keep students motivated, I would offer a prize if they made a 100 on these reviews as well as showcasing their work on a “brag board”. Since these assessments cover a broad range of skills, they also gave me a snapshot on which skills needed to be addressed in small group or as a class. After we reviewed the skill, I would return their graded assessment to allow students to correct any missed questions for half credit.

These can be used throughout the year, for BEST or FAST review or summer practice.

These practices are assigned form numbers for easy tracking and each review has an answer key. They cover the following skills:

Form 1: Stem-Leaf Plots

· reading and correctly identifying data on a stem-leaf plot

· correctly complete a stem-leaf plot based on given data

· identify the mode using whole and mixed numbers

· use data on a stem-leaf plot to add and subtract mixed numbers

Form 2: Mixed Operations

· determine the quotient (also includes using multiplication to check)

· identify within a 6-digit number a digit 10 times more or less than a given number

· word problems to determine given area

· rounding to the nearest thousand within a 5-digit number

· relating between word and expanded form

· multiple step money problem

· estimation

Form 3: Area & Perimeter

· determine area & perimeter of a shape

· determine missing length or width using area or perimeter

· use fractions to determine the perimeter of a shape

· possible measurements with a given area

· identify equation for area

Form 4: Fractions

· identify equivalent fraction based on illustration

· compare fractions with different denominators

· identify fraction on a number line

· multiply fraction by a whole

· use line plot to determine sum

Form 5: Lines & Angles

· determine type of angle based on measurement

· use protractor to measure angle

· decompose an angle to determine value of missing angle

· use vocabulary: acute, right, obtuse, straight, reflex

Form 6: Prime & Composite / Multiples & Factors

· define prime and composite for 2 and 3-digit numbers

· use area model to determine missing factor

· identify prime and composite numbers within a group

· identify common factors for two numbers

· determine multiples of a given number

· determine factor pairs of a number

Form 7: Decimals

· identify equivalent decimals and fractions using tenths & hundredths

· fraction word problem: adding tenths and hundredths (different denominators)

· ordering decimals

· illustrating decimals using a grid

· identify the missing decimal/fraction within an equation

Form 8: Angles & Shapes

· decompose an angle to determine value of missing angle

· use protractor to measure angle

· identify the type of angle

· vocabulary: acute, right, obtuse, straight, reflex

· identify 2D shape based on attributes

Form 9: Area & Perimeter

· using a grid: draw a shape with a given area or perimeter

· determine area & perimeter of a shape (grid)

· possible measurements with given area

· determine missing length or width using area or perimeter

Form 10: Fractions

· word problem: fraction multistep (add or subtract)

· word problem: multiplying fraction by a whole number

· word problem: using multiple illustrations to add, subtract & determine fraction equivalence

· determine the missing fraction in a multiplication equation using mixed numbers

· comparing fractions with different denominators

· ordering fractions with different denominators (halves, fourths, eighths)

· identifying equivalent fractions

Form 11: Add and Subtract Mixed Numbers

· word problems: add or subtract mixed numbers with regrouping

· fraction multiplied by a whole

· illustrate a mixed number

· write mixed number equivalent to improper fraction

· identify repeated addition equation to represent fraction times a whole

Form 12: Line Plots: Mode, Median, Range

· reorder data to determine median and range

· use line plot to determine median, range, and mode

· match line plot to given data

· identify measurements on given line plot

· add mixed numbers with regrouping
