Description

A room transformation is a fun way to review content. It does not need to be elaborate or expensive. This type of activity is meant for students to become involved in a story, and make them feel like they are on an adventure. During this time, students should have meaningful and educational learning experiences. Your classroom will be transformed with decor and activities to create an immersive learning environment.

This room transformation is a math review. It is great for test prep. There are 6 math stations. Each station covers a different standard in the five Common Core math domains. Get your students excited to review math from the year with this fun pirate themed room transformation.

During this room transformation students will have the opportunity to complete up to 6 different stations. The stations include:

  • Hidden Picture: Students will complete multiplication problems, and then use the products to color the boxes in the hidden picture.
  • Find the Treasure: This is a partner board game that reviews rounding.
  • Code Breakers: These are math word problems with fun codes to crack within each question.
  • Fraction Matching: Students will match puzzle pieces to create equivalent fractions.
  • What's the Angle? Students will use a spinner to read an angle degree. Then, using a protractor they will draw the angle.
  • Shark Attack: Students will practice customary measurement conversions in this fun partner game.

In this packet you will also find:

  • A room transformation introduction PowerPoint to use with your students
  • 2 different banners for your classroom in 2 different sizes (Print the size that works best for you!)
  • 4 different pirate themed posters
  • Table tent posters to decorate student desks
  • Award tags
  • Classroom transformation student job cards
  • Sticky badges (to be used as a classroom management tool during the room transformation)
  • Scorecards (to be used as a classroom management tool during the room transformation)
  • Scoring rubric

Also, included in this bundle is a math review escape room game!

Will your class escape in time? Oh no! Your class has been captured by a group of swashbuckling pirates! They must use their math skills to escape. To escape, students will solve clues and math problems found throughout the classroom. This is a review game for the math concepts taught in 4th grade. It can be played in small groups, or as a whole class. If your class has never played an escape game before, I suggest playing as a whole class for the first time.

This is an interactive game where the students are timed. Students try and solve clues and math problems to escape the classroom. You, the teacher, can decide how much time your students have to complete the task. I will suggest 45 minutes, but it is up to your discretion. You can project a timer for your class, or put one somewhere for all the students to see, so they can keep track of how much time they have left to complete their task.

This is similar to a scavenger hunt where students will be moving around the room, looking for clues to unlock their envelopes (I have included riddles and suggestions on where to hide each clue). To unlock their envelopes, students will need to solve math problems. A paper is provided so students can show their work for each problem. For many of the questions, students must have an answer that matches one on an envelope. If the answers do not match, they can’t open or “unlock” the envelope, and must rework the problem.

*Everything is included, however teachers must provide their own envelopes.

I give step by step instructions on how to set up the game, including pictures! This is sure to capture the attention of your students.
