These 4th grade place value number talks will help gifted and talented students warm up with math problems of the day! Project the paperless journal prompts on the board for morning work. Students will understand and apply their thinking as they talk about math, draw models, write their own problems and find multiple answers to open-ended questions.

There are so many ways to use this resource! Project a problem at the start of each math session, assign the problems digitally, or print questions for students to complete in centers. These paperless math prompts include 20 questions related to "Number Operations in Base Ten."

Recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. For example, recognize that 700 ÷ 70 = 10 by applying concepts of place value and division.
Read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. Compare two multi-digit numbers based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.
Use place value understanding to round multi-digit whole numbers to any place.
