Description

This Word Origins Readers Theater Script explores 5 Common Greek Roots and where they came from. Students read an interactive narrative instead of reading a dry textbook or passively listen to a video or lecture. This activity will help develop listening and speaking skills as students practice expressive voice acting.

Script Summary:

This script takes us on a journey through the influence of Ancient Greek on modern English. In five acts, we explore the Greek roots “tele” (distant), “auto” (self), “graph” (to write, record), and “chrono” (time). The script explains the historical background—with references to famous Greek figures and ancient texts—and then shows how these roots form everyday words like “telephone,” “automobile,” “autograph,” and “chronology.” It also touches on how modern digital communication continues to evolve these ancient ideas.
