Description

Looking for a way to get 5th grade math equations anchor charts you make as a class into your students' hands so they refer back to it later? How about trying to teach students to look at their notebooks?

Inside this set of 5th Grade Math Equations Anchor Charts:

  • Version 1: black and white, ready to trace
  • Version 2: colorful, ready to trace or print at 200% for a pre-made poster
  • Version 3: black and white, with fill in the blanks for students to fill in as you teach

How I use these math posters:

I can trace the main parts of the chart before the lesson, adding the important pieces during the lesson. Students can follow along with their copy of the anchor chart in their math interactive notebooks. They fill in key words and examples as we solve them as a class.

This has been a great tool for teaching students note taking skills, while still teaching from anchor charts. Students have the charts in their notebooks so they can see them and use them whenever they need. I've also used these after the lesson to review before tests.

Topics Included in this set of math charts for 5th grade:

  • order of operations in math problems, without exponents
  • finding patterns in tables
  • writing expressions
  • translating expressions

Use parentheses, brackets, or braces in numerical expressions, and evaluate expressions with these symbols.
Write simple expressions that record calculations with numbers, and interpret numerical expressions without evaluating them. For example, express the calculation “add 8 and 7, then multiply by 2” as 2 × (8 + 7). Recognize that 3 × (18932 + 921) is three times as large as 18932 + 921, without having to calculate the indicated sum or product.
Generate two numerical patterns using two given rules. Identify apparent relationships between corresponding terms. Form ordered pairs consisting of corresponding terms from the two patterns, and graph the ordered pairs on a coordinate plane. For example, given the rule “Add 3” and the starting number 0, and given the rule “Add 6” and the starting number 0, generate terms in the resulting sequences, and observe that the terms in one sequence are twice the corresponding terms in the other sequence. Explain informally why this is so.
