Unpack the 6th grade math standards with this pdf document. It provides an easy to use checklist for teachers or students to guide formative assessment, goal setting, and feedback. This checklist is designed for monitoring common core standards for 6th grade. Each standard is listed in a gray box with the unpacked I can statements below each standard.
There are soooo many uses for this product:
Set Clear Learning Targets – Show students the checklist before beginning the unit or topic. Discuss what it looks like to be able to perform the “I can” statements that lead to mastery of the overall goal. Refer back to the learning targets (standards and I can statements) frequently throughout the lesson/unit.
Improve Metacognition – Encourage students to think about their thinking processes and where they are compared to the learning target. Allow students to reflect on each statement using Marzano’s levels of learning.
Facilitate Goal Setting – Have students create a goal at the beginning of the topic/unit. Students should be able to evaluate where they are, where they are going, and how they are going to get there. Pre-Tests are a great tool to help find out where they are, this checklist can help them with where they are going, and a reflection on study skills can help students determine how they will get there.
Guide Formative Assessment - One of the most powerful tools in the classroom is formative assessment and feedback. This checklist has unpacked the standards and given you the teacher specific small goals that your students should be able to do on their way to mastering each standard. Use these small goals to guide formative assessment and the feed back you give your students. Address each standard with small standards based assessments.
Keep Parents Informed – The connection between home and school has never been more important than now. These checklists will help you communicate clear expectations with students and guardians alike. Not only will parents be able to stay informed about what students are learning, they will also be able to harness the power of google by searching “how to”….
