"Great activity that allows students to self-check, and then provides a riddle to solve. My students love these."

Description

Riddles are a great way to make a boring assignment fun. Combine that with task cards to get the students up and moving, and students are eager to learn.

However, I found students knew the answer to the riddle and just chose the answers to fill in the letters without doing any of the math. This way, students have to create the riddle before they can answer it.

This bundle contains word problems that are aligned with the 7th Grade Common Core Standards.

Here is what is included in the Bundle

1. Probability of Simple Events Create the Riddle Activity

2. Theoretical & Experimental Probability Create the Riddle Activity

3. Probability of Compound Events Create the Riddle Activity

4. Probability Outcomes: Fundamental Counting Principle Create the Riddle Activity

5. Probability of Independent and Dependent Events Create the Riddle Activity

6. Probability Outcomes: Permutations Create the Riddle Activity

The preview has the link for each of these activities, so be sure to check it out.

* Perfect for centers, homework or independent/group practice

* Engaging activity for students to practice

* Minimal prep - just print and present

* Easy to assess student mastery

* Answer Key included

My students did not seem to enjoy this activity, and none made any comments about the riddle aspect, I have found other resources for probability.

Great way to get students to practice. They were all messaging me with the question asking for the answer.

Understand that the probability of a chance event is a number between 0 and 1 that expresses the likelihood of the event occurring. Larger numbers indicate greater likelihood. A probability near 0 indicates an unlikely event, a probability around 1/2 indicates an event that is neither unlikely nor likely, and a probability near 1 indicates a likely event.
Approximate the probability of a chance event by collecting data on the chance process that produces it and observing its long-run relative frequency, and predict the approximate relative frequency given the probability. For example, when rolling a number cube 600 times, predict that a 3 or 6 would be rolled roughly 200 times, but probably not exactly 200 times.
Develop a probability model and use it to find probabilities of events. Compare probabilities from a model to observed frequencies; if the agreement is not good, explain possible sources of the discrepancy.
