Description
Riddles are a great way to make a boring worksheet fun. However, I found students knew the answer to the riddle and just chose the answers to fill in the letters without doing any of the math. This way, students have to create the riddle before they can answer it.

i used this to review prerequisite skills with my 8th graders. i like that it's self checking
My students really enjoyed completing this riddle. But there is a typo on the student sheet word bank. The option with "52" should have the word "serve" on it, not "eat."
This is a GREAT resource for extra practice/homework. I used it for IEP progress monitoring and small group instruction. Writing word problems from scratch is a challenge so this was very helpful!
One of my favorite to go resources. Can't get enough of the way the worksheet is set up. Keeps my students engaged trying to finish all the problems so that they can get the riddle question. Awesome resource!
Great way to add fun to math!
Great
My students loved this

CCSS7.EE.B.4
Use variables to represent quantities in a real-world or mathematical problem, and construct simple equations and inequalities to solve problems by reasoning about the quantities.
CCSS7.EE.B.4a
Solve word problems leading to equations of the form 𝘱𝘹 + 𝘲 = 𝘳 and 𝘱(𝘹 + 𝘲) = 𝘳, where 𝘱, 𝘲, and 𝘳 are specific rational numbers. Solve equations of these forms fluently. Compare an algebraic solution to an arithmetic solution, identifying the sequence of the operations used in each approach. For example, the perimeter of a rectangle is 54 cm. Its length is 6 cm. What is its width?
