Description

Students can use these absolute value guided notes in order to explore various transformations compared to the parent function. Included you will have three half pages of notes, a transformation reference guide and three exit slips.

The transformation reference guide provides information on horizontal and vertical translations, vertical stretches, vertical shrinks and reflections. On the three pages of guided notes, students will explore the following types of transformations:

  • Horizontal translations
  • Vertical translations
  • Vertical stretch, vertical shrink and a reflection.

A coordinate plane with the parent function is given in the notes. Students will graph two additional functions on the same coordinate plane. They are encouraged to use a different colored pencil to graph (and label) each function. Each page of notes provides a description in which students fill in words about the transformation.

There are three exit slips that can be used with the guided notes. Each exit slip has students show examine one type of transformation. The exit slip is meant to be used as a quick, short check on student understanding with absolute value functions.

Detailed answer keys are included.

Please take a look at the preview to see everything that is included.
