Practicing adding two four digit numbers with regrouping using the standard algorithm and checking answers a different way can be engaging and fun using Rally Coach! During this cooperative learning activity, partners will get the chance to "coach" each other while adding two four digit numbers and by checking their work a different way. This allows students to work together and verbalize their understanding of addition concepts using the standard algorithm. A list of math vocabulary words is included at the bottom of both pages, so students can practice using academic vocabulary as they solve. Students can also check answers in the second column using a different strategy such as using the inverse operation (subtraction), modeling with a place value chart using disks, or with a tape diagram (or any other way your students have learned to add). This holds both students accountable for their answers and computation.
