Going from visual representations of addition to the standard algorithm can be super tricky. That's where this worksheet comes in! Each problem is listed twice: one side asks students to use either the HTO or expanded form addition strategy (their choice!), and the other uses boxes to set up the standard algorithm. This helps with organization.

In my classroom, this resource has been super helpful in getting students to see the connection between place value blocks and "normal math". I challenge them to try the standard algorithm first, then check their work with a more familiar strategy.
