Description

Teach students how to create and decompose Algorithms with these print and digital activities. 2 types of printable activities ask students to color pictures following an algorithm. 2 types of digital activities ask students to order the steps of an algorithm, identify the bug or an extra step, and then write their own 5 step algorithms for a given topic.

Use these activities as a crash course to understanding what an algorithm is, how to write one, follow one, and decompose one. I even included a simple assessment. See the table of contents for what is included.

The printable sheets make a great bulletin board once students are finished. Just add a header and their colored pages.

2 Links to the Digital file and answer key (there are 16 slides of digital activities)

3 Algorithm one page poster

4-5 Vocab words

6-15 Algorithm Coloring pages

16-17 Assessment options (full page or half page)

18-19 Terms of Use and Credits

Strand: Computational Thinker

Standard: 5.a. formulate problem definitions suited for technology assisted methods such as data analysis, abstract models and algorithmic thinking in exploring and finding solutions.

I highly recommend the picture book Kids Get Coding as an introduction to this topic for you and your students.
