Description
This PowerPoint is designed to introduce students to the concept of allegory. It defines the term and uses a well-known fable ("The Tortoise and the Hare") to present an example of allegory that students of various ages and abilities can comprehend. The presentation concludes with a guide outlining questions students ask themselves as they read a work of allegory. I have used this presentation before reading Orwell's Animal Farm, Golding's Lord of the Flies, and Poe's The Masque of the Read Death as an effective way to lead into an examination of allegory in literature.
