Description

Integrate STEM and social studies in your classroom during Women's History Month with this Amelia Earhart STEM challenge!

Travel through the skies with Amelia Earhart! Build an Airplane STEM Challenge is a fun and unique way to engage your students during Women's History Month. Teach students that anyone can be a successful pioneer in the industry regardless of gender.

Students begin the activity by reading about Amelia Earhart and learning vocabulary on different aspects of flight (thrust, lift, drag, weight, and force). You can also use I am Amelia Earhart by Brad Meltzer with this resource to help students learn more background knowledge.

Students design, build, and test their own airplane! After they have completed their activity, there is time for reflection on what worked and what didn't.

BONUS: An informational writing activity using topic sentences and supporting details is included to help students reflect and write about what they learned about Amelia Earhart during the STEM Activity!

I paired this with "I am Amelia Earhart" by Brad Meltzer. It was a great for Kindergarten and 1st graders. I made sure to pre-cut tape ahead of time or use old labels as tape.
