Description
This Google Sheets activity is self-checking AND auto-grading! The immediate feedback students receive as they are working is sure to increase student engagement while supporting their understanding of the characteristics of graphs of functions. Students will determine whether a function is 1) discrete or continuous, 2) increasing, decreasing, both increasing and decreasing, or neither decreasing nor decreasing, and 3) linear or nonlinear. The automatic grading will save teachers so much time, whether you would like to count this activity toward students' grades or just use it as an informal assessment to guide your instruction.
As students are working, the problem will change color depending on whether their answer is correct (green), partially correct (yellow), or incorrect (red). There is also a color-coded progress monitoring bar that will automatically become larger and change color as students get more correct answers. AND students' scores will automatically be calculated and displayed as a percent and continuously change in real time to reflect the accuracy of their answers.
Students will complete this digital Click and Check activity in Google Sheets to identify characteristics of graphs as shown in the digital task cards that can be viewed one at a time within the provided drop-down menu. Students will just click the checkboxes of all the characteristics that apply to a given graph. If they have identified the characteristics incorrectly, they will be able to easily correct and learn from their mistake.
Students will analyze 16 graphs and select three of the following terms or descriptions to qualitatively describe each graph:
- Discrete, or
- Continuous
- Increasing, or
- Decreasing, or
- Both Increasing and Decreasing, or
- Neither Increasing nor Decreasing
- Linear, or
- Nonlinear
An optional worksheet is included for teachers who prefer to have students show further evidence of their understanding on paper. Students will select one of each of the eight types of graphs, sketch it, and explain how they know the graph has the identified characteristic for all eight terms or descriptions shown in the digital activity.
