Engage students in Animal Farm, by George Orwell, with background information and allegory posters! In this pre-reading activity, students read a background summary of the Russian Revolution, define key terms, figures and definitions, analyze existing allegories, and create an allegory poster.
- An extension assignment in which students apply their understanding by writing their own mini-allegory is also included.

Great pre-reading activity to review for the upcoming novel study.
Super engaging activity. I liked having the graphic organizer so that that my 7th grader could organize her ideas before making the poster.
The pre-reading background information and vocabulary was extremely helpful. I plan on using the allegory activity later on as we progress through the novel.
I used this for the background information one day when I had to be out unexpectedly and my students were able to make the necessary connections just as if I were there with them. I was able to move right into the novel after returning.
This was a great resource that my students and I both enjoyed!
