Description
Congratulations! Your class has been chosen to design new skyscrapers and buildings for Array City. Array city, was once a great city that full of beautiful skyscrapers with windows set up in arrays. Unfortunately, recently the skyscrapers were destroyed and are in need of rebuilding. This is a fun and engaging project based multiplication work has students put on their "construction caps" and design and build their new array city. This product is broken down into five phases.
Phase One - Vocabulary : students review what an array is as well as rows and columns.
Phase Two - Practice your array skills: students practice creating arrays, solving multiplication sentences attached to arrays and creating multiplication number sentences that go along with arrays.
Phase Three - Review old construction plans : in order to successfully build something it's best to learn from examples, students will view the old array city before it was destroyed and solve multiplication problems from what array city once had.
Phase Four - Create Construction Plans: as architects and engineers their next step is to decide on the number of buildings they will have in their array city, and how the array windows will be designed on those buildings. Students plan out what their array city will hold.
Phase Five - Final Construction and Design: Using their construction plan students begin building their array city, either on the paper template provided or on construction paper and more.
*Extension options are given for students who would benefit from an extra option.*
You can use the final construction plans to make your own LARGE class array city for a bulletin or hallway display!
*There are Digital (Google Slides Friendly) and Printable Versions for this Multiplication Project*
